No. 7 Bouchard loses to No. 17 Makarova in 4th round at U.S. Open
No. 7 Eugenie Bouchard is the latest woman to fall at the U.S. Open.
Bouchard lost to No. 17 Ekaterina Makarova on Monday in straight sets, 7-6, 6-4. Bouchard fails to make the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam for the first time this season.
The 20-year-old Canadian struggled with the heat on a muggy day in Flushing Meadows, N.Y. She took a medical timeout after the fifth game in the second set, and never quite seemed comfortable during the match. She won only two of 10 break points, and was going uphill seemingly all afternoon.

Still, it's been a very successful 2014 for the Montreal native:
Genie Bouchard doesn't get a grand slam title this year, but she will end the season with the most grand-slam match wins (19)

The tournament is Serena's to lose, based on seedings:
With No7 Bouchard out, No1 Serena Williams is the only one of the top-9 seeds on the women's side to reach #USOpen quarterfinals.

It's the second straight U.S. Open quarterfinals appearance for Makarova, who improves to 34-15 on the season. She's now beaten Bouchard in both their career meetings.
