Serena Williams wins record 8th Miami Open title
With all due respect to Carla Suarez Navarro, she never had a chance.
World No. 1 Serena Williams steamrolled Navarro, seeded 12th, to win her record eighth Miami Open - and 66th career title - on Saturday, 6-2, 6-0.
Williams has won 21 matches in a row, and is now 5-0 lifetime against Navarro, winning all 10 sets. She had 17 winners to Navarro's two in Saturday's first set.
The thrashing was complete in 56 minutes. Domination, pure and simple. With the win, Williams improves to an incredible 66-17 in finals. There's more: Serena's 18-0 this season.
The title is Williams' second of the year, and she's won her last 12 finals appearances. Serena becomes the fourth woman to win an event eight times, joining Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert and Steffi Graf.
Williams is a career 73-7 in Miami, and has won 18 in a row at the tournament.
