Serena, Kerber share embrace and kind words after Aussie Open stunner

Serena Williams was 21-4 in Grand Slam finals before Angelique Kerber shook up the world Saturday night. Now, after winning four straight majors to complete her second career "Serena Slam," she'll go home empty-handed from a second major in a row.

It was tough to know how she'd respond, given how rarely she's been in the loser's circle at a final, and how testy she'd been after the Roberta Vinci loss at last year's US Open. But she was gracious and deferential in defeat, betraying not the slightest bit of disappointment. She seemed calm, and strangely unburdened.

She seemed, well, serene.

"Congratulations Angie, you were the best player this tournament," Williams said in her consolation speech. "I really hope you enjoy this moment. You truly deserve it."

Kerber returned the favor in her victory speech, thanking Williams for all she's done for the game.

"I mean, you're really an inspiration for so many people, for so many young tennis players," Kerber said. "You're really an unbelievably great person, so congrats for everything you did already."

The two then proceeded to yuk it up during the trophy presentation and photos in their best imitation of Vinci and Flavia Pennetta.

It was a touching moment after an incredible battle.

What a match.
