France's Amandine Henry ruled out of Women's World Cup due to injury

France midfielder Amandine Henry, who was recalled for the Women's World Cup by new coach Herve Renard after a lengthy absence, will miss the tournament because of a calf injury.

The former France captain, who fell out of favour under Corinne Diacre, hurt herself in training on Wednesday and will be replaced in the 23-player squad by Aissatou Tounkara.

Henry, 33, has won 93 caps but has not played for her country since December 2020 after a dispute with Diacre, who was replaced by Renard in March ahead of the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Henry signed for Angel City in Los Angeles last month after more than a decade with Lyon.

Les Bleues start their World Cup campaign against Jamaica on July 23 in Sydney and also face Brazil and Panama in the group stage.
