A man's lucha libre training came in handy during a recent attempted armed robbery in Stamford, Conn.

The 57-year-old aspiring wrestler was walking down a street early Saturday morning when he was confronted by a knife-wielding man demanding money, sergeant Robert Shawinsky told John Nickerson of the Stamford Advocate. The unnamed victim initially backed away when he saw the knife, but then decided to use one of his wrestling moves to subdue the attacker.

The victim kept the suspect, 43-year-old Israel Torres, pinned to the ground until police arrived.

"He punched Torres in the face and conducted a takedown move on him," Shawinsky said.

Torres denied owning the knife and said he was punched in the face randomly. He's been charged with attempted first-degree robbery with a knife.
