Vince McMahon seriously considered a storyline involving O.J. Simpson after the former NFL star was found not guilty in the 1994 murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ron Goldman, according to former WWE writer Vince Russo.

Responding to rumors that he once tried to book a match between Simpson and Goldman's father, Russo stated on the latest episode of his podcast, "Truth With Consequences," that it was McMahon who pitched a Simpson angle.

"I went to (former WWE writer Bruce Prichard's) house one day. That's where they used to write the show. This is when I was third wheel, okay bro? And (Jim) Cornette was not there, it was early in the morning. It was just me and Bruce," Russo said (starts around the 37:50 mark). "Bruce told me he had just gotten off the phone with Vince, and they were seriously considering an O.J. Simpson angle, and Roddy Piper was a part of that angle. Bro, keep in mind, the O.J. thing had just happened. He was just found not guilty. I mean, this thing was on fire.

"And I remember my knee-jerk reaction to Bruce was, 'Bro, like, are you freaking nuts?' Like, if O.J. Simpson got a payday from the WWE, like that would not look good for the company. I said, 'Bro, the only way you could ever book that match is if Ron Goldman - Ronald Goldman himself - freaking beat the s-- out of O.J. Simpson. That's the only way you could ever get away with booking that match."

In 2018, Simpson described a hypothetical account of his involvement in the murders in a two-hour special that aired on FOX. The program contained footage from Simpson's shelved 2006 interview with publisher Judith Regan, who published his 2007 book, "If I Did It."
