Marlins manager: Stanton unlikely to play again this season

Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is unlikely to return to the field this season after undergoing a series of tests in Miami on Tuesday, manager Mike Redmond told MLB.com.

"(Stanton) was being checked out later this afternoon," Redmond said. "We'll have an official statement (Wednesday), but it's probably not looking good for him."

Stanton remains eager to return to the lineup despite suffering several facial injuries after being hit in the face with a pitch during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers on Sept. 11. The 24-year-old provided a photographic update of his recovery Tuesday on Instagram, but Redmond doesn't seem optimistic he can return before the season ends.

"Hopefully, he does come back," third baseman Casey McGehee said Tuesday afternoon. "But while he's out, we want to finish up strong to let him know, when he does come back, that he doesn't have to be the one doing all the lifting by himself, that we can pull together."
