Report: Lawson's previous off-court issues made Kings leery
With news of Denver Nuggets point guard Ty Lawson's most recent arrest for an alleged DUI early Tuesday, the market for the productive six-year NBA veteran - on the trading block for months now - has unsurprisingly cratered, according to Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski.
Lawson's name had been linked heavily to the Sacramento Kings prior to their addition of Rajon Rondo, in the partial belief that coach George Karl would want to reunite with his former floor general in Denver.
However, because of Lawson's previous arrest on DUI charges - in January in Colorado - there was no way the Kings' front office wanted to part ways with their first-round pick in exchange for him last month, according to the Sacramento Bee's Jason Jones.
Given the Kings' recent magnetic attraction to headaches, they really dodged a big one here.
In all seriousness, however, Lawson's situation isn't to be laughed at, and the impact of his off-court issues on his NBA playing career is actually the least of his concerns right now.
Lawson is due in court in Denver this Friday for the January case, and an arrest on an identical charge in another state is not something that generally helps legally.
Lawson, who turns 28 in November, is under contract for two more seasons at the tune of about $26 million with the Nuggets.
