VIDEO: A young(er) Karl-Anthony Towns interviews 'basketball idol' Kevin Durant

Gary A. Vasquez / USA TODAY Sports

Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Karl-Anthony Towns - who turns 20 on Sunday - is still a pup compared to most of his NBA peers, but he hasn't played like one, averaging 16.1 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks through his first eight pro games.

That's even more remarkable when you consider Towns - the No. 1 overall pick last summer - was a freshman in high school not four years ago. Here he is back then, interviewing one of his "basketball idols" in Kevin Durant.

Fast-forward to the present, and Towns' ascendant Wolves sit just a game back of Durant's Oklahoma City Thunder in the Northwest Division.

The two players will square off for the first time Jan. 15, on ESPN.
