Manu Ginobili says he is 'way behind'

It's hard to imagine 12-year veteran San Antonio Spurs guard Manu Ginobili being rusty, but that's exactly how the crafty Argentinian guard feels.

“Way behind basketball-wise,” Ginobili told Paul Garcia of Project Spurs. “I am very insecure with the ball, but I am pain free.”

“That hasn’t happened in a long time, so I’m happy about that,” continued Ginobili. “Sometimes I get a little impatient. I am so far behind, and I want to be useful and help the team out.”

Ginobili took the offseason, avoiding basketball activities such as the FIBA World Cup of Basketball, to heal from a stress fracture in his right fibula. Thus far in preseason action, Ginobili is shooting 26.7 percent from the field while committing five turnovers per game.

“Even though it’s preseason, everyone wants to play well," Ginboili said. "I understand that we have time, and we’re only four games into the preseason, but in 10 days we are playing (the season opener) and I want to be ready then."

The Spurs open the regular season on Oct. 28 at home against the Dallas Mavericks.
