Nadal will have season-ending appendicitis surgery in November

Geoff Burke-USA TODAY Sports

Rafael Nadal will see you in 2015.

The 28-year-old Spaniard will have season-ending appendicitis surgery in November, and will miss the Paris Masters, which he pulled out of Friday, and the ATP Finals in London.

Nadal said:

It's the day to say goodbye to the season. It's been a very hard year for me, mentally and physically. I'm not going to play Paris and London, I'm not competitive enough for that. I need to do the surgery for my appendix and I need to work on my back.

I need five weeks of rest and I want to have one month to try to work as much as I can to be ready for 2015. The only way to work on being fit is to be healthy. I need to fix all the things in my body first.

His comments suggest he's a lot older than 28, don't they?

Nadal is currently ranked third in the world in the ATP rankings, and ends 2014 with a 46-10 record and four titles. He was a finalist at the Australian Open, and, as usual, won the French Open, for the fifth time in a row and ninth time in 10 years.
