Report: Blue Jays receiving interest regarding Navarro

Peter Llewellyn / USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays signing of catcher Russell Martin on Monday has made the incumbent Dioner Navarro expendable, and the team is receiving interest regarding the 30-year-old backstop, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports.

Navarro, who is set to earn $5 million next season in the final year of his deal, is coming off a productive 2014 campaign with the Blue Jays. The 11-year veteran appeared in a career-high 139 games while slashing .274/.317/.395 with 12 home runs and 69 RBIs.

The free agent crop of catchers is far from impressive, especially now that Martin is off the market, so it comes as little surprise that teams in need of catching would contact the Blue Jays.

In addition to Martin and Navarro, the Blue Jays also have catcher Josh Thole on their roster.
