The Toronto Maple Leafs have broken ground on contract negotiations with Nazem Kadri, but there's still a long road ahead.
Maple Leafs brass have reportedly discussed a dollar amount - rumored to be in the $5-million range - but have yet to negotiate term with Kadri's camp, according to TSN's Darren Dreger.
His report also indicates the Maple Leafs are in no rush to negotiate further with the 24-year-old center.
Kadri has 13 goals and 27 points in 46 games, a drop-off from his career-best point-per-game totals during the lockout-shortened 2013 season.
