Milan's Stephan El Shaarawy to miss at least 6 weeks with fractured foot

The misery never ends for Stephan El Shaarawy.

The oft-injured AC Milan attacker is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after the club announced Monday that he is dealing with a fractured bone in his right foot.

"The player, right at the end of the match against Lazio on Saturday evening, sustained a fracture at the base of his fifth metatarsal bone in his right foot following a challenge," the club said in a statement.

The Italian winger, still only 22 despite seemingly being with the senior team forever, will wear a walking boot on his foot for the next six weeks. The club noted he will then be sent for further evaluation.

El Shaarawy has endured a miserable last 18 months, as a separate foot problem forced him to miss much of last season - he made only seven appearances in all competitions in 2013-14.

The recent string of setbacks is all the more infuriating - for both the player and supporters - after the versatile forward burst onto the scene with 16 Serie A goals in 2012-13, at which point it looked as though he was destined for superstardom.
