Fantasy Spotlight: Brock Holt
Throughout the month of March, theScore examines hitters who represent their team's most intriguing fantasy plays. This edition focuses on Boston Red Sox super-utility man Brock Holt.
2015 in Review: 509 PA, .280/.349/.379, 56 R, 2 HR, 45 RBI, 8 SB
The Good: Holt is the most versatile player in the game. He'll have eligibility at 2B, 3B, SS and OF this season. He can hit for a decent average (career .277) and get on base (career .335 OBP). He won't steal a ton of bases, but could easily swipe 10-15.
The Bad: Holt isn't projected to be in Boston's Opening Day lineup, though with his versatility, he'll still likely see 500 PA. Question marks surrounding OFs Jackie Bradley and Rusney Castillo provide a potential starting OF spot later in the season. His six career home runs give him little power upside.
Best Comparison: Somewhere between Don Kelly and Ben Zobrist.
What's in Store: Holt's not flashy, but it wouldn't be surprising if he upped both his BA and OBP by 5-10 points in his third full season in the majors. Though 12 steals is his career high, he has a career .875 stolen base percentage, so it would be smart of John Farrell to give him the green light more often.
Draft Outlook: Holt is a bench player in real life, and that's all he should be for your fantasy team. For those who prefer carrying extra pitchers on your bench, Holt can be your only backup position player. Because of his limited upside, he should be taken as nothing more than a late round flier.
