Fantasy Spotlight: Alex Gordon
Throughout the month of March, theScore examines hitters who represent their team's most intriguing fantasy plays. This edition focuses on Kansas City Royals OF Alex Gordon.
2015 in Review: 422 PA, .271/.377/.432, 40 R, 13 HR, 38 RBI, 2 SB
The Good: For leagues that have OBP, Gordon is deadly with his career .348 mark. He's a great gap-to-gap hitter with modest power to all fields. He'll only hit 15-20 home runs, but has 40-double potential. Right now he's projected to hit seventh, but often finds himself near the top of the order.
The Bad: Gordon's 10-to-15-steal seasons could be behind him. He won't necessarily stand out in any counting categories. If he's stuck hitting seventh all season, his run total will take a hit after he recorded no fewer than 87 in four straight years before 2015.
Best Comparison: Cubs OF Jason Heyward
What's in Store: Though his batting average won't stand out, Gordon can still slash somewhere around .270/.360/.430, hit 15-20 home runs and rack up 70-90 RBI depending on where he hits in the order for most of the season. If he bats first or second in the order like he has in the past, he has 90-to-100-run potential.
Draft Outlook: In mixed leagues, Gordon can be drafted late as a solid high-floor, low-ceiling OF3. He'll go much higher in AL-only leagues, probably somewhere from rounds 7-10. He's a safe pick with Kansas City's lineup expected to be potent once again.
