Silva, Ortiz to meet in boxing match Sept. 11
Former UFC champions Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz have agreed to a Sept. 11 boxing match on a Triller Fight Club card at Staples Center in Los Angeles, Triller co-founder Ryan Kavanaugh told ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
The cruiserweight contest will be sanctioned and will feature eight two-minute rounds.
"I am very excited to have the opportunity, along with my team, to get in the ring against Tito Ortiz on Sept. 11 with Triller Fight Club, who are really shaking things up in the combat sports world," Silva said.
Ortiz will be making his boxing debut. "The Huntington Beach Bad Boy" made his final appearance in the Octagon in 2019, and he finished with a 21-12-1 record as an MMA fighter.
The 46-year-old's most recent fight ended in a win over former wrestler Alberto El Patron.
Silva is set to enter the boxing ring after scoring a split-decision victory over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in June.
The clash will be the co-feature event before Vitor Belfort faces Oscar De La Hoya in the pay-per-view main event.
