The New Orleans Saints are expected to hire Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore as their next head coach, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Moore cannot officially be named head coach until after the Eagles play in Super Bowl LIX due to the pre-Super Bowl no-contact period rules. The Saints are proceeding carefully to try and avoid tampering charges and will wait until after the Eagles play in Sunday's championship game before working to finalize a contract, Schefter reports.

However, negotiations are expected to proceed smoothly once the sides are permitted to speak, sources told Schefter.

Moore reportedly emerged as the team's top choice after interviewing with New Orleans twice in January. He spoke with Saints general manager Mickey Loomis in Philadelphia recently and told reporters earlier this week that it was a "great" experience, according to Schefter.

This will be the 36-year-old Moore's first head coaching gig. The former quarterback began his coaching career in 2018 as the Dallas Cowboys' QB coach before being promoted to offensive coordinator the following season. He also served as OC with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 prior to joining the Eagles.

Under his watch, Philadelphia's explosive offense scored the seventh-most points (463) and ranked eighth in total yards per game (367.2) during the regular season.

Moore will now take over a Saints team that's coming off a dismal 5-12 campaign and cycled through three different starting quarterbacks. The Saints, who haven't reached the playoffs since 2020, finished last in the NFC South for the first time since 2008.

New Orleans, the last team to still have a head coaching vacancy, fired Dennis Allen after a 2-7 start. Assistant head coach and special teams coordinator Darren Rizzi finished the season as the team's interim head coach.

Rizzi was reported to be one of several other candidates vying for the permanent job. Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka were also said to be in the mix.

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady interviewed with the Saints before opting to remain with the Bills, per Schefter.
