Ryan Garcia charged with misdemeanor count of vandalism
Boxing star Ryan Garcia was charged with one misdemeanor count of vandalism, the Los Angeles County district attorney announced Thursday, according to ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
Garcia was arrested June 8 in connection to an incident that occurred at the Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills.
The 25-year-old Garcia, who's expected to be arraigned Aug. 7, could face a maximum sentence of one year in jail if he's found guilty.
"While we are grateful no injuries were reported in this incident, reckless behavior that damages property shows a blatant and unacceptable disregard for the safety and peace of our community," said district attorney George Gascón. "Our office will work to ensure the responsible individual is held accountable."
Garcia's charge is for $400 or more in damage or destruction of property. However, Beverly Hills police said he caused around $15,000 in damage.
"No way I'm going to jail," Garcia wrote on X following Thursday's announcement.
Garcia is currently serving a one-year suspension from boxing after he tested positive for a banned substance.
