Bayern nabs Gnabry from Bremen
Serge Gnabry is set to follow a path familiar to many emerging German stars after agreeing to join Bayern Munich on a three-year deal from Werder Bremen.
Days after triggering a release clause in his Bremen contract a year after joining the club from Arsenal, Gnabry, 21, heads south to Bavaria to enlist with the five-time defending Bundesliga champ.
"FC Bayern Munich have agreed the transfer of Serge Gnabry with Werder Bremen. Gnabry, 21, will sign a three-year contract at FC Bayern," Bayern announced.
Top scorer at the 2016 Olympics for silver medalist Germany, Gnabry piggybacked a stellar summer with a red-hot start at Bremen and would go on to score 11 goals for the club.
"It’s a great honour to become part of FC Bayern. It’s going to be an exciting time and one that I’m very much looking forward to," Gnabry added.
Gnabry's move to the Bavarian behemoth is hardly a surprise after it was rumoured the Gunners' academy product was close to joining Bayern in 2016, with suggestions that the club were expected to sign him prior to loaning him to Bremen for a season.
In the end, Bayern got its guy, and at first glance, it would appear Gnabry's addition is likely to fuel speculation of a summer exit for fellow right-winger Douglas Costa.
