Brazil's under-fire 2014 World Cup boss, Jose Maria Marin, has been extradited to the United States in connection with bribery and corruption charges.

Accused of taking bribes in excess of several million dollars from sponsors in relation to Copa America tournaments and the Copa do Brasil, the former president of the Brazilian Football Confederation has complied with requests for his extradition.

Swiss authorities say he was chaperoned on a flight to New York on Tuesday by two U.S. police officers.

His extradition is consistent with the Swiss Federal Office of Justice's demand that: "Under Switzerland's Mutual Assistance Act, the former soccer official must be placed in the custody of a U.S. police escort and taken to the USA within 10 days."

Marin was arrested May 27 following the raid of a luxury hotel in Zurich.

Based on a slew of allegations, the 83-year-old could face 20 years in prison on racketeering charges.
