Following an extended injury-related hiatus, lumbering Dutch free agent centre-back Ron Vlaar has found a new home with Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar.
Vlaar, 30, has been without a club since turning down a contract extension with Aston Villa on the heels on an injury-riddled season that saw the defender miss time with calf and knee issues.

With a standout performance at the 2014 World Cup where the former Feyenoord player started all seven of the Oranje matches, Vlaar was looking to sign with a higher profile side before injuries sidetracked his ambitions.
Things have come full circle for Vlaar, who rejoins a mid-table AZ side that he spent eight years with as an academy player before making his first-team debut in 2004.
