Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich said he would extend his contract "in the next few days" after helping the team beat Bayer Leverkusen to reach the Champions League quarter-finals on Tuesday.

The 30-year-old's current deal expires at the end of the season, his 10th at the club.

Bayern's sporting director Max Eberl had said the "ball was in Kimmich's court" over whether or not he would sign an extension.

"(A new deal) will definitely be coming in the next few days," the Germany captain told reporters.

"It's been difficult in the past few days because we've had so many games."

Captain Manuel Neuer, midfielder Jamal Musiala and defender Alphonso Davies all signed contract extensions in February.

Kimmich signed for Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2015 and has made 429 appearances for Bayern in all competitions, winning eight Bundesliga titles and the Champions League in 2020.

Kimmich has played 97 times for the Germany national side, scoring seven goals.

Bayern currently sit eight points ahead of second-placed Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and will face Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals.
