Swansea shocks Arsenal for consecutive top-6 conquests
Swansea City has vaulted out of the Premier League's bottom three courtesy of back-to-back victories against two of England's biggest clubs.
A week after shocking Liverpool at the Liberty Stadium, Carlos Carvalhal's Swans did it again, decimating a lifeless Arsenal side 3-1 in south Wales on Tuesday.
Arsenal arrived in Swansea with an unfamiliar tone of positivity, on the heels of two victories on the bounce and the arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan while nearing a subsequent move for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
But it was all for nowt on this day, as the Swans dominated proceedings from the opening whistle, taking advantage of numerous errors from Arsenal including Petr Cech's ghastly failed clearance that led to Jordan Ayew's 61st minute goal.
Sam Clucas bookended Ayew's goal with two of his own, as the versatile ginger-maned summer signing ran the Gunners' backline ragged.
With the victory, Swansea now sits 17th on 23 points, with Carvalhal registering 10 points in his first five matches in charge. Meanwhile, Arsenal is eight points adrift of a coveted top-four spot after Liverpool topped Huddersfield Town 3-0 on Tuesday.
