Report: Fellaini facing 6-8 weeks out with knee injury

Marouane Fellaini's appearance Wednesday against Tottenham totalled seven minutes before the second-half substitute limped off with a suspected knee injury.

The generously coiffed Belgian international's brief cameo is all the football the Manchester United midfielder will be playing for a while after reports surfaced Thursday suggesting Fellaini faces six-to-eight weeks on the sidelines with medial ligament damage.

Fellaini, 30, is set to undergo scans on his troublesome knee at United's Carrington training centre amid fears that surgery could be required to correct the injury, according to a report from ESPN UK's Mark Ogden.

Moments after coming on for Paul Pogba in the 62nd minute of the 2-0 defeat at Wembley Stadium, Fellaini appeared to limp as the result of a non-contact knock, and was subsequently swapped for Ander Herrera. It was the towering Red Devil's third knee injury of the season, with his last coming against Brighton on Nov. 25. That concern kept Fellaini out for a month-and-a-half, with the former Everton man returning for an FA Cup tilt with Derby the first week of January.

Since his latest return, Fellaini has played a total of 45 minutes in four matches, and with the possibility that the latest ailment will rule him out until April, the 80-time-capped international's spot in a second-consecutive World Cup is at risk.
