Report: Wolves target Rojo as Manchester United prepare Maguire bid
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly looking to offload a defender to bankroll a big-money move for Leicester City's Harry Maguire, and Wolverhampton appear happy to oblige.
Premier League returnee Wolves are targeting a £25-million move for Red Devils full-back Marcos Rojo, according to a report from the Telegraph's Luke Edwards and James Ducker.
Rojo, 28, agreed to a three-year contract with United in March despite being a frequent inhabitant of Mourinho's crowded doghouse. The Argentina international made just nine league appearances last season, the fewest in his four seasons at Old Trafford. Louis van Gaal lured Rojo to Manchester in 2014 from Sporting CP for a £15.8-million fee. Rojo has not been included in United's preseason U.S. tour.
Wolves have been busy in the summer window, luring Portugal international mates Rui Patricio and Joao Moutinho to the Molineux to go with a permanent move for Diogo Jota and the loan acquisition of Raul Jimenez from Benfica.
Rojo's sale would help United fund a move for Maguire, with the Telegraph also reporting that Leicester is looking to make the England star the Foxes' second-highest-paid player behind Jamie Vardy with an improved £100,000-a-week offer. Mourinho and Co. are apparently willing to table a £60-million bid for Maguire, eclipsing the £50 million Manchester City splashed to make Kyle Walker the most expensive English defender ever.
The Premier League transfer window closes Aug. 9, with United set to open the 2018-19 campaign the following day with a serendipitous visit from Leicester.
