Leicester City's Maddison, Chilwell done for the season
Leicester City's hopes of a top-four finish have been dealt a blow with confirmation that first-team pair James Maddison and Ben Chilwell have been ruled out for the club's last two matches.
"James and Ben won't play for the rest of the season," Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers told reporters following Thursday's 2-0 victory over Sheffield United, per Reuters.
Maddison and Chilwell both missed the crucial result against the Blades with respective hip and thigh concerns, and now the duo will not feature in a tricky run-in against Tottenham and Manchester United.
Leicester are clinging to fourth place and a coveted Champions League spot ahead of Sunday's trip to north London. Rodgers' charges are on 62 points, narrowly ahead of United by a three-goal difference.
Injuries to Maddison and Chilwell mark the latest setback for an increasingly short side. Influential right-back Ricardo Pereira is out with cruciate ligament damage, and Caglar Soyuncu is suspended after the Turkish center-back picked up a red card against Bournemouth.
Rodgers also confirmed Marc Albrighton is doubtful to play versus Spurs due to a hip injury, and that full-back Christian Fuchs could be sidelined up to 14 weeks with a groin concern.
"We’ve got a few injuries, we’ve just been unfortunate. So that’s where we’re at," Rodgers added.
