Liverpool are adding another impressive piece to their midfield core.

The Reds finalized a deal Friday to sign Hungarian playmaker Dominik Szoboszlai after triggering the player's €70-million (£60-million) release clause, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano reports.

Szoboszlai will become Liverpool's second summer signing following midfielder Alexis Mac Allister's arrival from Brighton & Hove Albion. The club signed Mac Allister earlier in June for an initial £35 million.

Szoboszlai follows in the footsteps of Naby Keita, who spent time at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig before moving to Merseyside. Keita left Liverpool this month after allowing his contract to expire.

Newcastle United reportedly expressed interest in signing Szoboszlai before focusing on AC Milan's Sandro Tonali. That allowed Liverpool to swoop in and agree to terms with the 22-year-old, who helped Leipzig win a second consecutive German Cup last season.

Leipzig emerged as a suitable dance partner with Liverpool after agreeing to take Fabio Carvalho on loan. It's unclear if Leipzig's negotiations for Carvalho - whose loan deal doesn't contain a buyout clause - made Liverpool's pursuit of Szoboszlai any easier.

A student of Red Bull's typically progressive style of play, Szoboszlai promises to make a quick transition to Jurgen Klopp's high-pressing system. He's also a great striker of the ball, especially from distance, having finished second in the Bundesliga in shots outside of the penalty area.

Szoboszlai finished the campaign with 10 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.
