Tiger, Rory show blueprint to winning at Royal Liverpool

Royal Liverpool has hosted only two Open Championships in the last 50 years but delivered blockbuster winners both times in Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy. While Woods isn't in attendance this year, McIlroy comes in red-hot off his dramatic win at the Scottish Open. Looking back at their victories in 2006 and 2014, the pair followed a clear blueprint to hoist the Claret Jug at the end of the week. Read full story.

5 questions entering the Open Championship

It seems like just a short time ago when Jon Rahm was slipping on the green jacket as Masters champion, yet here we are at the season's final major with a long layoff ahead. There are plenty of storylines to follow this week at Royal Liverpool, with Scottie Scheffler's outrageous form taking center stage. Will the World No. 1 capitalize on an all-time statistical season with a major? Will we get the Jordan Spieth who's been the best Open Championship player since 2015, or will it be the one who missed the cut last week in Scotland? See full post.

The course

Royal Liverpool may not get the hype the rest of the Open Championship rota receives, but the layout on the west coast of England is a proper test of golf. That's evidenced by a previous champions list including Woods, McIlroy, Peter Thomson, Bobby Jones, and Walter Hagen.

However, this year's setup will challenge the players in new ways. The course added plenty of bunkering, severe run-off areas around the greens, new tees, and a new par-3 17th hole that'll test the leaders down the stretch.

After playing as a par 72 in 2006 and 2014, the course will be set up as a par 71 with the 10th hole moving from a short par 5 to a 507-yard par 4. Despite those added tests, the course should be very scoreable for the world's best, with relatively soft conditions in the lead-up to keep the firm and fast challenge away.
