Report: Giggs to quit United following Mourinho hire
An appointment as high-profile and contentious as Jose Mourinho's was always going to cause a ripple at Manchester United, and that's exactly what appears to be happening, with club legend and assistant manager Ryan Giggs reportedly on the verge of quitting.
After 28 years with United, Giggs, 42, could leave the club he joined as a schoolboy, according to James Ducker of the Telegraph.
Initially thought to be an ideal homegrown replacement for Louis van Gaal, the job went instead to mercurial twice-tenured Chelsea gaffer Jose Mourinho.
Giggs, 42, is expected to have talks with Mourinho about the prospects of staying on board with the club, though it's considered a long shot, as the Portuguese Champions League winner is expected to bring trusted assistants Rui Faria and Silvino Louro with him.
The most decorated player in Premier League history, if Giggs did leave United, he would likely have to take a managerial gig either in a lower league or abroad, which former Class of '92 mate Gary Neville might dissuade him from doing following the defender's nightmarish spell at Valencia.
