Report: Vardy delays Arsenal decision until after Euros

Faced with the prospect of a high-profile move to Arsenal or staying put with league champion Leicester City, 24-goal man Jamie Vardy will reportedly wait until after England's Euro 2016 campaign to make a decision on his future.

Preferring to focus on the European Championship in compliance with gaffer Roy Hodgson's request that club matters not interfere with the quadrennial tournament, Vardy will make the call no sooner than June 21, a day after England's final group game with Slovakia, according to Dominic Fifield of the Guardian.

Should England advance to the knockout phase - which is not a big ask considering the Three Lions are in a group with Russia, Wales, and the Slovaks - Vardy's decision will be pushed back even later.

Arsenal has reportedly triggered Vardy's £20 million release clause last Friday, and speculation suggested that the move could have been finalised Monday. Those rumours proved unfounded, as the 29-year-old boarded the plane to France with his England mates sans decision.

The delay doesn't help Arsenal. Desperate for a marquee first-choice striker among other requirements, the Gunners uncharacteristically showed an impetus to get its summer moves out of the way early. Granit Xhaka made the switch from Borussia Monchengladbach and it appeared that the Vardy move was set to become a second signing before the Euros kicked off.

With Vardy now focusing on England's Euro campaign, it's possible Arsenal and gaffer Arsene Wenger may decide to look elsewhere, especially in light of Chelsea's reported interest in its other forward target Alvaro Morata.

Having missed out on transfers before to the derision of pundits and supporters alike, Wenger and co. will hope not to be the odd man out for an umpteenth time.

Understandably, Leicester is desperate to hold onto Vardy, offering the Sheffield-born goal-machine a lucrative contract upgrade to coerce him into staying at the King Power Stadium amid interest from the north London giant.
