Report: Vardy '80 percent' likely to stay at Leicester

Jamie Vardy is apparently leaning toward remaining at Premier League champion Leicester City rather than moving to Arsenal.

The Gunners reportedly triggered the release clause written into the England striker's contract last week, but more recent accounts suggested the north London club would have to wait on Vardy's decision until after Euro 2016.

However, Vardy has been discussing his future with teammates at England's Chantilly training camp and is said to be "80 percent" in favour of a Leicester stay, sources told The London Evening Standard's James Olley.

In a bid to fight off interest from Arsenal, the Foxes reportedly offered to increase his weekly salary by £20,000 to £100,000, even though he only signed his current deal in February. That would still fall some way short of the salary Arsenal would offer, though.

Another lure for Vardy is believed to be Leicester itself. Continuing the unforeseen rise of the outfit - which sensationally overcame 5,000-1 odds to clinch the Premier League title in 2015-16 - in the Champions League next season is a huge temptation. He'd also be guaranteed first-team football in the east Midlands, rather than battling for a starting berth with Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck, and Theo Walcott at Arsenal.

The lure of Arsene Wenger's side, however, with its historic, trophy-laden eras and significant standing in European football, remains.

Vardy is poised for England's Euro 2016 opener against Russia on Friday, but various reports state the Yorkshireman will be dropped to the bench for the tie.
