Report: Unsettled Mahrez skips Leicester training again
Riyad Mahrez reportedly failed to turn up to Leicester City training Thursday after a deadline-day move to Manchester City dissolved in the January transfer window's final moments.
The Algerian international's absence marks the second time in a week he has skipped training, with Sky Sports's Rob Dorsett reporting the 2015-16 PFA Player of the Year also missed first-team duties last Friday after submitting a transfer request.
Mahrez, 26, was reportedly the subject of three bids from runaway Premier League leader City. The final offer was a player-plus-cash deal worth an estimated £65 million, prompting a refusal from the Foxes, who valuated their star playmaker at £95 million. Reports suggest City was unwilling to raise that final bid, leaving Mahrez unsettled over the failed transaction.
Asked about Mahrez's condition after Wednesday's defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, Foxes manager Claude Puel offered: "We will see, but the most important thing is to keep my focus with the others and we will see with Riyad.
"It's of course always a difficult situation and we will have to manage this situation with Riyad, and I hope he can come back quickly with us and with a smile and happy to play with us."
Mahrez has two-and-a-half years left on a deal he signed in August 2016, and has been previously linked with a move to Arsenal.
