Report: Spurs paying Mourinho £15M annually, Pochettino £12.5M in severance
Tottenham's shock managerial overhaul is going to cost the club a lot of money.
Incoming Spurs gaffer Jose Mourinho is set to follow Pep Guardiola as football's second-highest-paid manager by earning an astounding £15 million per year, according to ESPN FC.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy's opulent expenditures won't stop there. Mourinho's predecessor, Mauricio Pochettino, will receive a £12.5-million payout following his dismissal, according to the Evening Standard's Tom Dutton. The total amount increases to £20 million when including packages for Pochettino's fired assistants - Jesus Perez, Miguel D'Agostino and Antoni Jimenez.
Add that up, and Levy will be shelling out roughly £35 million for the first season of Mourinho's deal while compensating Pochettino - who was earning £8.5 million per year - and his staff for their premature exits.
That total doesn't include contracts for Mourinho's new assistants. Spurs confirmed Wednesday that Joao Sacramento and Nuno Santos are set to leave their jobs at Lille to join Tottenham, while Ricardo Formosinho and Giovanni Cerra will also come aboard.
Additionally, Spurs will owe Mourinho compensation if he doesn't complete the terms of his contract agreed through 2023. The Portuguese's last two appointments at Chelsea and Manchester United were both terminated prematurely.
