Tottenham's Mourinho rules out summer squad overhaul

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho says the club isn't looking to make wholesale changes during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Speaking ahead of Wednesday's FA Cup fifth-round visit from Norwich City, Mourinho was asked about a potential summer shopping spree following three defeats on the spin in all competitions.

"Massive changes? No. Not massive changes," Mourinho offered, according to the Evening Standard.

"First of all because that is not what we think we need," Mourinho added. "Second because of the profile of our club. Third because of what the market is."

After ties between then-manager Mauricio Pochettino and the team's board were reportedly fractured following two successive transfer windows without additions, Spurs were active during the recent summer and January periods.

In the winter window, Christian Eriksen was shipped to Inter Milan and Danny Rose left for Newcastle. Steven Bergwijn made the north London switch from PSV, as did Gedson Fernandes from Benfica. Giovani Lo Celso also penned permanent terms with the club.

Long-term injuries to attack tandem Harry Kane and Heung-min Son are highlighting depth concerns as the club competes on three fronts. Still, Mourinho reckons that navigating transfer windows is increasingly challenging.

"Year after year it is more difficult. So, I'm not thinking of an overhaul," he reiterated.

Spurs currently sit seventh in the league table on 40 points amid a logjam of teams seeking a coveted fourth-place finish. On the continent, Mourinho's lot faces an uphill climb ahead of a March 10 trip to RB Leipzig after the Germans handed Spurs a 1-0 first-leg home defeat.
