Mane tests positive for COVID-19
Liverpool star Sadio Mane tested positive for COVID-19, the team announced Friday.
The reigning Premier League champions said the Senegalese international displayed "minor symptoms" and is currently self-isolating, as per coronavirus guidelines in the United Kingdom.
Mane, 28, becomes the second Liverpool player to recently test positive for the coronavirus after summer addition Thiago Alcantara did so last Thursday.
"Like with Thiago Alcantara, Liverpool Football Club are - and will continue to - follow all protocols relating to COVID-19 and Mane will self-isolate for the required period of time," Liverpool added.
The 2019-20 PFA Team of the Year honoree last played for the Reds in the 3-1 league victory over Arsenal last weekend but was absent from the teamsheet for Thursday's League Cup defeat to the Gunners.
Liverpool didn't reveal a timeline for Mane's return, though the forward is certain to miss out on Sunday's trip to Birmingham to face Aston Villa.
