Alexander Isak was glad to score his first Premier League goal for Liverpool as the English champions stopped the rot with a welcome 2-0 win away to West Ham on Sunday.

"We knew it was going to be difficult to get back to winning ways after our recent form," Isak told Sky Sports. "Happy that we won and happy to be on the scoresheet as well."

Isak had failed to score in five previous top-flight appearances since making a British record £125 million ($165 million) move from top-flight rivals Newcastle in September.

"I'm aware that it has been a long time coming and I have been trying to get back to my best form," he said.

The 26-year-old Sweden forward ended his barren spell at the London Stadium with only his second goal in 11 games in all competitions for the Reds, following his maiden strike in a League Cup win against second-tier Southampton.

"I'm still on the way but I am happy to get that goal," he said. "The best feeling today is that we win the game and that is the best way to get a good spirit in the group.

"But of course I am a striker, so scoring goals will always help me. We have to use this win in a good way but also be humble. We have to stay focused and keep working hard to keep this momentum."

Cody Gakpo bagged Liverpool's second in stoppage time to wrap up their first win in four games in all competitions.
