Louis van Gaal agrees with fans' profane chants

Manchester United's embattled boss Louis van Gaal didn't pull any punches when discussing his squad's performance in an underwhelming 2-1 defeat to Midtjylland Thursday.

The Dutchman's quotes were inspired by travelling Red Devils supporters, who serenaded the players with a chorus of "We're f---ing s--t, we're f---ing s--t" after the club surrendered a one-goal advantage to the Danish minnows.

"The fans can criticise," Van Gaal said of the chants. "They can do because when you see the second half maybe they are right. We have to improve and then the fans shall support us again. We have seen that in the 18 months I am here.

"They are disappointed like we are. I’m very grateful for the fans who supported us but we wanted to win and we have to win at Old Trafford and then we are in the next round. We have to do it but it’s not easy."

"It’s the law of Murphy," the gaffer continued. "When you have a list of injured players and a few minutes before the game we can add another player to the list then it is difficult to cope with such a list of injured players."

The boss' disappointment is compounded by an injury to star shot-stopper David De Gea in warm ups, prompting the insertion of rarely-used Sergio Romero into the starting lineup. To Romero's credit, he was dazzling between the sticks for United, giving the visitors a glimmer of hope for the Feb. 25 return leg at Old Trafford.

"We have the chance to beat them at home," Van Gaal offered.

"I think we have to do that."
