Ireland's injured Harry Arter to miss Euros

A difficult season for Bournemouth and Ireland midfielder Harry Arter has taken another hit as the 26-year-old has been ruled out of next month's Euro 2016 after suffering a thigh injury in training Monday.

Arter was sent home from training in Cork after picking up the thigh concern, and will now miss the quadrennial tournament in France to cap off a disastrous year.

The Charlton Athletic academy product and his wife lost their newborn at birth in December. The central midfielder also suffered hip and achilles injuries that forced him to miss 17 matches.

Widely considered one of the Premier League's nicest players, Arter's latest setback is a spell of tough luck for someone who doesn't deserve to face another hardship.

Arter had played 82 minutes for Ireland in a 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in Dublin last Friday, and appeared poised to play a role for Martin O'Neill's lot.

Ireland kicks off its Euro campaign June 13 against Italy, before facing Belgium and Sweden in Group E action.
