Will work for Wilmots: Belgium posts top spot online

After a once-promising Euro campaign came crashing back to earth following a quarter-final drubbing from Wales, Belgium has begun the process of replacing embattled manager Marc Wilmots.

The Red Devils are taking a highly coveted position with a very specific set of qualifications and turning it into a part-time gig at the chip shop after having posted an advert for the vacated job online.

Four days after ending Wilmots' four-year tenure at the helm of FIFA's second-ranked side, Belgium has listed to requirements for the job, and it's open to the public so long as the applicant meets the following demands:

  • Must have experience and achieved success in the fast changing world of modern football
  • Proven track record in transmitting tactical and strategical knowledge to the world's top level players
  • An open and strong communicator
  • Someone who masters social context and high performance
  • Someone who has mastered the management of age generations
  • With a proven track record of implementing a culture of "high performance"
  • Proven to be able to operate at the heart of an existing structure and organisation and wishes to consult with the Belgian FA in matters of team management, training facilities and financial, commercial and communication framework.

While the position is open to the anyone, John Q. Public will face certain competition from former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal, who has emerged as the bookmaker's favourite.

"Van Gaal might be a potential candidate," Belgian FA president Francois de Keersemacker told reporters on Friday. "We will see if he puts himself forward. If he does then we will evaluate his candidacy."

The deadline for submissions closes July 31, and applicants are reminded not to contact the poster with unsolicited services or offers.
