Russell secures shock pole for Canadian GP
Mercedes driver George Russell will start from P1 for Sunday's Canadian Grand Prix after posting the same fastest time as Red Bull superstar Max Verstappen during Saturday's qualifying at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal.
However, Russell earned the pole because he recorded his time before Verstappen did.
The last time Formula 1 saw the exact same time between P1 and P2 was the 1997 European Grand Prix when Jacques Villeneuve, Michael Schumacher, and Heinz-Harald Frentzen all recorded the same mark.
It's only the second time Russell will start a race from the pole position during his F1 career.

The qualifying session also provided some shocking results, as Red Bull's Sergio Perez failed to get out of Q1, while Ferrari teammates Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc stumbled in Q2.
