F1 moves Canadian GP to May starting in 2026
Formula 1 and Canadian Grand Prix organizers agreed to move the event to late May starting in 2026.
The race, which previously took place in either early or mid-June, is set for the third or fourth weekend of May.
"We applaud the tremendous effort from all involved to accelerate the temporary build of the event to be ready to host the Formula 1 community earlier than in the past," F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said in a statement Monday. "The change will make the future flow of our calendar not only more sustainable but, logistically, more sensible for our teams and personnel."
The F1 calendar change keeps all the European races together in one period during the summer, which removes an additional transatlantic crossing. The Canadian GP will now be the next event after the Miami GP.
F1 also moved the dates for the Japanese GP, Azerbaijan GP, and Qatar GP in recent years, as well as the 2026 Monaco GP, to optimize the schedule.
