Russell secures pole for Singapore GP with historic lap
Mercedes driver George Russell will start from the pole position for Sunday's Singapore Grand Prix after posting the fastest time during qualifying sessions at the Marina Bay Street Circuit on Saturday.
Russell set the quickest lap time in Singapore history for his second pole of the 2025 season.
"It's amazing to be on pole position," Russell said, according to Lorraine McKenna and Alicia Turner of BBC. "Yesterday was a very challenging day for many different reasons, but it's good to come back and get a good result today.
"It's a long sweaty race tomorrow but I knew there was potential in the car. Kimi (Antonelli) was doing an amazing job all weekend and I actually changed quite a lot from seeing what he was capable of doing yesterday afternoon. I'm very happy to be on pole."
Red Bull's Max Verstappen will start beside Russell on the top row. McLaren's Oscar Piastri finished third in qualifying as he looks to build on his lead in the drivers' standings.
Meanwhile, Williams drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz Jr. were both disqualified for a technical infringement, dropping the duo to the back of the grid for Sunday's main event.
