Monaco's Lemar 'disappointed' by last summer's failed move to Premier League

Monaco winger Thomas Lemar admits he was disheartened by a failed summer switch to the Premier League, though the France international is hopeful a move is still in the cards.

"I am not going to hide it, I was a bit disappointed," Lemar offered, courtesy of the Evening Standard. "But there is no point fixating on that."

With both Liverpool and Arsenal in for the pacey attacker - the latter most likely to land Lemar as a replacement for Manchester City-bound Alexis Sanchez - a move to the English top flight was one of the summer transfer window's most prominent storylines.

Instead, Lemar stayed put on the principality as the Sanchez move dissolved before the Chilean made his way to rival Manchester United in the winter window. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has since admitted that Lemar had the final say on the €100-million move.

"The player has chosen to stay at Monaco," Wenger said. "You have to respect what happens on the negotiation side."

Wenger's admission may very well be a means to cover the chagrin of failing to ship Sanchez, still, the Frenchman maintains that Arsenal's interest in the 22-year-old is no less present. "Yes, we'll come back in for him," Wenger said in September.

Lemar remains encouraged by the chances of a move abroad, adding, "I have continued to work so that these clubs might come back for me in the following transfer window.

"My future? I am open to everything. I love all the different leagues."
