MVP for every club in Ligue 1 this season
With an exciting Ligue 1 campaign set to come to an end Saturday, theScore has compiled a list of each club's most valuable player, recognizing both France's biggest stars and its unsung heroes.
Monaco - Kylian Mbappe
Apologies to Fabinho, Thomas Lemar, and Bernardo Silva, but there's only room for one Monegasques' star on this list, and with 15 league goals and eight assists this season - including 13 tallies since the first week of February, 18-year-old Mbappe gets the nod.
Paris Saint-Germain - Edinson Cavani
Cavani's 35 Ligue 1 goals is best among Europe's top five leagues, resulting in 44 percent of all Paris Saint-Germain tallies this season, the highest percentage in France's top flight. Zlatan who?
Nice - Jean-Michel Seri

Nice's midfield metronome Seri has been both the club's best player and its most important, and while the likes of Ricardo Pereira, Wylan Cyprien, and Valentin Eyserric all had breakthrough seasons, the Ivorian international is tops. Six goals and nine assists complement the centre mid's efforts, but it's Seri's passing that afforded Les Aiglons their goal-scoring opportunities.
Lyon - Alexandre Lacazette
Next season, when Lacazette is filling the void at Atletico Madrid left by Antoine Griezmann's move to Manchester United, remember how the local boy bagged 26 goals in 27 starts, papering over the cracks of a mercurial Lyon campaign. Also worth noting: Laca's involvement in 29 league goals is tops for French players in Europe's top five leagues.
Marseille - Florian Thauvin
Atrocious on the Tyneside but a revelation on the Cote d'Azur, Thauvin has revived a career that hit rock bottom at Newcastle. This season with Marseille, Thauvin paired 15 goals with eight assists while playing on the right wing as part of a three-headed attack with fellow former Premier Leaguers Bafetimbi Gomis and Dimitri Payet.
Bordeaux - Youssouf Sabaly
A full-back by trade, Sabaly has enjoyed a solid campaign for Bordeaux, starting 29 matches for Jocelyn Gouvernnec's lot amid a fourth consecutive loan spell from PSG. A quality dribbler, Sabaly was stellar during last Saturday's stalemate with Marseille, and among a cohesive unit short on stars, the 24-year-old makes the list.
Nantes - Emiliano Sala

After flirting with relegation a year ago, Nantes had a bounce-back campaign, and much of that was due to a stellar second half from Argentine attacker Sala. His 12 goals were the most for Les Canaris since Olivier Monterrubio scored as many during the 2000-01 term.
Saint-Etienne - Loic Perrin
One of Ligue 1's most underrated defenders, Saint-Etienne centre-half Perrin had another brilliant campaign. His four goals were second only to Kamil Glik's five among defenders, and his penchant for timely tackles while rarely picking up cautions is something to marvel at. Shout outs to defensive brethren Florentin Pogba and Kevin Malcuit for forming a unit with Perrin that conceded the fourth-fewest goals in Ligue 1.
Rennes - Benoit Costil
Considering only two sides heading into Saturday's action have scored fewer goals than Rennes (Nancy, Bastia), there's no way this distinction is going to anyone but France international Costil. The stop-stopper's dozen clean sheets rank fourth-best in Ligue 1, and his performances against Lyon and Lille were particularly outstanding.
Guingamp - Marcal
Tops among Ligue 1 defenders for assists (seven), Guingamp left-back Marcal has been a revelation this season, combining a knack for crosses with an eye for an incisive pass. Not too shabby at defending either, the Brazilian-born Gremio product joined EAG on season-long loan from Benfica in the summer, and for youngsters looking for a tutorial in full-back play, look no further than a 5-0 drubbing of Bastia on March 11 where Marcal was utterly exceptional.
Toulouse - Christopher Jullien

Like Nantes, Toulouse, under inspirational gaffer Pascal Dupraz, survived a brush with relegation a year ago to flirt with mid-table football, and Les Pitchouns owe much of that to a strong backline. While 20-year-old centre-half Issa Diop is one for the future, his partner, Jullien, gets the nod for 34 tidy performances highlighted by four goals and a penchant for aerial duels.
Lille - Sebastien Corchia
Consider it a phenomenon of mythic proportions that Lille has managed to survive relegation this season, with much of that due to having conceded the second-fewest goals in the bottom half. That's where right-back Corchia has been a useful asset, appearing in all 37 of Les Dogues' league tilts while being a menace on the flank, crossing balls for the likes of Eder to fire into the second tier of the Stade Pierre-Maufoy.
Angers - Cheikh N'Doye
For the second season on the bounce, towering central midfielder N'Doye has been Angers' most important player. Five goals and five assists in 32 matches are a metric that serves the Senegalese international well, but it's his penchant for winning aerial duels and spraying key passes about that has served Les Scoistes so well this term.
Metz - Renaud Cohade
Having conceded a league-worst 71 goals heading into Saturday's final matchday, it's a miracle Metz has avoided relegation, and while there's little credit to go around, central midfielder Cohade gets the nod. In 32 appearances this year, Cohade has proven a useful passer and set-piece taker, and his 11 yellow cards are second only to Toulouse's Steeve Yago. That's gotta count for something, even if it's not necessarily constructive.
Montpellier - Ryad Boudebouz

Treading water perilously close to the drop zone, Montpellier can thank its lucky stars for the versatile Boudebouz. Able to play as an attacking mid, on the right side, or as a No. 9, Boudebouz has been La Paillade's most important player, pairing 11 goals and nine assists with seven Man of the Match performances this season.
Dijon - Lois Diony
Involved in 41 percent of all Dijon goals this season, Diony, 24, has been a vital part of The Mustards' return to Ligue 1. Down on his luck after once-prodigious academy spells at Bordeaux and Nantes, Diony has found his way at the Stade Gaston Gerard, with 11 goals and eight assists, second only to four players who lead France's top tier with nine helpers.
Caen - Ivan Santini
Like Montpellier, Caen's flirtation with a return to Ligue 2 could have been far worse were it not for Croatian striker Santini. A towering presence, the 27-year-old has been a revelation in his debut campaign for SMC, bagging 15 goals while registering a pair of assists to account for 43 percent of Caen's tallies this term.
Lorient - Benjamin Moukandjo
Cameroonian AFCON winner Moukandjo continues to be Lorient's most important attacking player, banging in 13 of Les Merlus' 44 goals this season. If there was any justice in this subjective list, Moukandjo and fellow forward Majeed Waris would share this honour.
Bastia - Enzo Crivelli

With a Ligue 1-record 12 red cards, a minority of xenophobic ne'er do well supporters, and trouble makers, Bastia hasn't exactly endeared itself to French football. Regardless, Crivelli has 10 of I Turchini's 29 goals, and that should count for something. Besides Crivelli, Monaco's on-loan winger Allan Saint-Maximin, 20, has been a treat to watch develop.
Nancy - Issiar Dia
With a league-low 26 goals scored, last-place Nancy has already booked a date with a Ligue 2 return, and there aren't a lot of positives to take from a drab campaign. Considering Dia's eight goals and a trio of assists means the Senegalese winger has had a hand in 42 percent of Les Chardons' offensive contributions, that's enough to be MVP for the lowly Lorraine side.
