PSG's Di Maria 'never lost hope' over failed Barcelona move
Paris Saint-Germain's purveyor of perfectly weighted passes, Angel Di Maria, said he always believed a potential summer move to Barcelona could happen.
"I was close and at the same time very far from reaching a deal with Barca," Di Maria told ESPN FC. "I never lost hope over the chance. I was calm about it but it never happened."
An unlikely move for the former Real Madrid winger appeared to gain steam toward the end of the summer transfer window. Di Maria's reported desire to leave the French capital was prompted by the blockbuster additions of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
Once a regular member of Unai Emery's front-three, Di Maria became a second choice and Neymar and Mbappe formed an attack with Edinson Cavani.
With Di Maria potentially eyeing greener pastures, and PSG undoubtedly looking to make a few euros off the sales of some of its high-profile stars to meet Financial Fair Play requirements, the Argentina international hinted that a move to the Catalonia may still be in the cards.
"For sure, life takes many twists and turns and one never knows what the future might hold," he added.
