Laurent Blanc implores PSG to smash 1st-half points standard
Sitting comfortably atop the Ligue 1 standings with a 17-point cushion and a fourth consecutive league title on the horizon isn't enough for Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc, who wants his side to set the record for first-half points as well.
Blanc called on his side to set a new standard for Ligue 1 success at the midway point, with Saturday's match at Caen presenting an opportunity to eclipse Lyon's 50 points at the same point of the 2006-07 campaign.
Three points against the side currently sitting fourth would give the capital side 51 points and 16 victories in 19 matches.
Unbeaten in the league this season, Blanc's hoping the potential of setting a new points standard will ignite his players.
"In any case, they will be informed," Blanc said at a news conference before Saturday's match, courtesy of ESPN FC.
"If that can add an extra motivation, it's a good thing."
Should PSG set a record for most first-half points, Blanc and his lot will have their eyes on the standard they set in 2013-14, compiling a league-record 89 points.
"Our ambition is to go and win in Caen, to take three points and to beat this record that Lyon still hold."
