Report: Celta Vigo monitoring Lyon striker Claudio Beauvue
Newly-appointed Lyon boss Bruno Genesio was adamant Friday that Celta Vigo's interest in striker Claudio Beauvue is nothing more than wishful thinking on the part of the La Liga side.
The Guadeloupe-born forward joined Les Gones in the summer from Guingamp, despite interest from Celta, according to a report from L'Equipe.
"Claudio is an Olympique Lyonnais player. As long as he's here, I will use him if he deserves to play and he deserves to be in the group. Just like the others," Genesio told reporters.
Having missed out on the 27-year-old forward once, the Pontevedrans are back at it - this time reportedly offering Lyon €4 million. The Ligue 1 side, however, insists that Beauvue is valued at €7 million and nothing less.
Celta has been La Liga's surprise side this year, sitting fifth in the table on 31 points courtesy of a breakout season from attacking midfielder Nolito, who has eight goals and five assists in 15 league matches.
The club's emergence has been complimented by a revitalized Iago Aspas. The former Liverpool outcast has eight goals in 18 league matches in an advanced position for Eduardo Berizzo's lot, though the pint-sized Spaniard lacks the skill set and frame of a traditional No. 9.
That's where the Beauvue interest comes into play.
The Nantes youth product has netted four times in the league, playing second fiddle to Alexandre Lacazette, who is mired in a slump when contrasted with last season's 27-goal heroics.
Even with the speculation concerning Beauvue's tenure with the French giants, Genesio is adamant that, for the moment, he is a Lyon player.
"Today he is part of Olympique Lyonnais and is therefore likely to play."
