Report: Lorient to file complaint against Sunderland over failed Lamine Kone move
In light of Lamine Kone's failed transfer to Sunderland, Lorient is planning to make a complaint to the Federation Francaise de Football (FFF), holding the Black Cats accountable for its role in the fiasco.
The robust centre-back flew to the northeast and spent five days training with Sunderland as a move approached completion, only to be told to fly home as the club opted instead for Bayern Munich defender Jan Kirchhoff, according to a report from Sky Sports.
Lorient insists the team turned down other offers for Kone in lieu of Sunderland's interest, with the Ivorian's transfer falling through at the last minute. Kone returned to Sylvain Ripoll's ranks for the second half of the Ligue 1 campaign.
It is understood that Lorient is contemplating all options, even considering legal recourse as the 27-year-old defender was forced to miss three matches awaiting the transfer to the Premier League club.
When asked of the transfer debacle and the potential ramifications for the club, a spokesperson from Sunderland didn't pull any punches.
"We find talk of potential legal action to be ludicrous and would vigorously defend our position on this."
