Suarez extends Barcelona deal through 2021 with €200M buyout
Barcelona goal machine Luis Suarez has pledged his future to the Catalan giant, putting pen to paper on an extension Thursday that will see him at the club though 2021.
The club announced the move with a statement on its website, adding that the Uruguayan international's new terms feature a €200-million buyout clause.
Suarez's new deal will be officially signed Dec. 16 at the club offices. The contract adds two years and the buyout clause to his terms, which were set to expire in 2019.
Since joining La Blaugrana in 2014 from Liverpool, Suarez's numbers have been nothing short of bewildering. In 116 matches in all competitions, Suarez has bagged 97 times for an average of 0.83 goals per game, winning eight trophies along the way as part of a lethal front three alongside Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Suarez, 29, has paired two La Liga crowns with a tandem of domestic cups and the 2015 Champions League title following the Merseyside switch.
Last season, Suarez scored 40 league goals, good for both league and European-best after scoring 25 times in La Liga during his debut campaign.
This year, the Golden Boot winner's already collected 13 goals in 20 appearances for Luis Enrique's lot as the 90-time capped international cements his place as football's most clinical finisher.
